Information Governance & Records Management Lead

Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is a faith-based humanitarian relief and development organisation working to save and transform the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people.  Established in 1984, with an active presence in over 45 countries, we strive to make the world a better and fairer place for those affected by poverty, conflict and natural disasters. 

 

IRW’s Office of General Counsel Division is recruiting for the new role of ‘Information Governance & Records Management Lead’ on a full-time, permanent basis to join its Data Protection team based out of its offices in Birmingham, UK. The organisation is operating to a hybrid working model.

 

The postholder will work across all levels of the organisation to:

  • Lead on the implementation and maintenance of IRWs records management policy to help ensure that information assets are stored and managed in an organised, accessible and secure manner, including leading on the implementation of an organisation-wide electronic document and records management system within IRWs technical environment,
  • Lead on the implementation of IRWs data retention policy to help ensure that information assets are being retained for as long as necessary and then disposed in a timely, secure and appropriate manner, and
  • Support compliance with Information Governance (IG) related legislation and standards by contributing to the development of IG strategies and plans, providing expert advice and guidance and co-ordinating training and assurance activities (with a lead focus on records management and data retention) in order to promote a culture change in how information assets are managed.

 

The successful candidate must have:

  • Appropriate professional qualification in information management / governance or records management. 
  • Working knowledge of UK laws and regulations that govern the access to, management and retention of data, including practical experience of working in a role closely aligned to the remit of this role. 
  • Working knowledge of electronic records management principles, standards and systems. 
  • Experience of implementing projects and change in relation to how an organisation manages its information assets.
  • Excellent IT and digital skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills including ability to translate technical requirements into simple and clear language. 
  • Ability to raise awareness of good IG amongst across all organisational levels including the ability to be persuasive and determined.
  • Ability to motivate and lead a network of IG champions whose substantive post might not be IG focused.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to review current working practices and make improvements to increase efficiency or manage risk.
  • Ability to work autonomously, organise, prioritise and manage workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate awareness of customer focused services.
  • Ability to ensure a high level of confidentiality when processing confidential and highly confidential data. 
  • Committed to personal development and continuous improvement. 
  • Ability and motivation to provide training and coaching.
