Junior Mosque Engagement Officer - West Midlands

Salary: £24,608 (pro rata) per annum

Contract Type: Fixed Term, 3 months

Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is a faith-based humanitarian relief and development organisation working to save and transform the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people.  Established in 1984, with an active presence in over 45 countries, we strive to make the world a better and fairer place for those affected by poverty, conflict and natural disasters. In the UK, IRW has a partner whose main role is to raise funds, raise awareness, carry out advocacy and support domestic programmes: this partner is called Islamic Relief UK (IRUK).

 

Islamic Relief UK (IRUK) is actively recruiting for the position of ‘Junior Mosque Engagement Officer – West Midlands’ to be based from its office in Birmingham, UK.

 

Purpose of the role:

The Junior Mosque Engagement Officer supports their regional team in developing and managing relationships with a network of mosques and community organisations/partners, as well as Mosque committees.

 

The successful candidate must have:

  • Previous experience of community engagement role (particularly with mosques).
  • Experience and confidence with public speaking and announcements
  • Experience of engaging and working with different levels management within mosques/Islamic Centres/Islamic Organisations (e.g. mosque chair, Imams, and board members).
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work outside normal office hours.
  • Ability to represent Islamic Relief in a wide range of situations.
  • Strong motivation and empathy towards the aims and objectives of the organisation.
  • Experience of organising events and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent work attendance and punctuality record.
  • Strong presentation, negotiating and networking skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, be self-motivating and deliver to target.
  • IT literate with ability to use MS packages, particularly Word and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organisational skills i.e. ability to prioritise and plan work, set and achieve deadlines, establish and maintain monitoring systems etc.
  • Have a flexible approach to work.
