Established in 1984 and operating in over 45 countries, we respond to emergencies, tackle poverty, empower communities, and advocate for lasting change.
We are seeking a UK Programmes Officer to join Islamic Relief UK (IRUK) based in London. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly organised and community-focused individual who is passionate about delivering impactful programmes, building partnerships, and supporting vulnerable communities across the UK.
Islamic Relief UK plays a vital role in raising funds, mobilising support, advocating for change, and delivering programmes that strengthen communities and improve lives. Through collaboration with partners, local authorities, community organisations, volunteers, and faith groups, we work to address need, build resilience, and maximise positive impact throughout the UK.
About the Role
The UK Programmes Officer will play a key role in supporting the delivery and administration of Islamic Relief UK's domestic programmes and grant-making portfolio. Working closely with programme partners and internal stakeholders, you will help coordinate projects, oversee grant processes, monitor programme performance, and contribute to effective programme delivery and continuous improvement.
You will support the assessment of grant applications and partner proposals, conduct due diligence checks, review budgets and expenditure reports, and ensure programme activities are delivered in line with organisational policies and quality standards. The role will also involve monitoring and evaluation activities, impact reporting, stakeholder engagement, and maintaining accurate programme records and systems.
In addition, you will help coordinate volunteer engagement activities, support community-based projects, contribute to emergency preparedness initiatives, and work alongside a diverse range of partners to strengthen outcomes for beneficiaries across the UK.
The successful candidate will have:
A degree-level qualification, or equivalent experience, in international development, humanitarian assistance, community development, or a related field.
Experience coordinating programmes or projects involving external partners and stakeholders.
Experience in monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and programme administration.
Experience reviewing budgets, expenditure reports, and financial documentation.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
The ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
Experience maintaining accurate records, reports, and programme documentation.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
An understanding of local issues and challenges affecting communities across the UK.
Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Islamic Relief Worldwide.
Desirable
Experience of grant management processes and grant management systems.
Experience working with volunteers and volunteer development programmes.
Experience supporting emergency preparedness or emergency response activities.
Experience within the charity, humanitarian, or faith-based sector.
Experience producing impact reports and programme learning documentation.
Knowledge of CRM systems and programme databases.
Experience facilitating meetings, workshops, or training sessions.
Understanding of due diligence, compliance, safeguarding, and risk management processes.
Why Join Islamic Relief?
This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute directly to programmes that make a meaningful difference to communities across the UK. You will work with a wide range of partners and stakeholders, helping to shape and deliver initiatives that address local needs, strengthen community resilience, and maximise social impact.
If you are a motivated programme professional with strong organisational skills, a collaborative approach, and a passion for supporting vulnerable communities, we would love to hear from you.
